KFC is giving free grilled chicken, one piece per person, to customers on Monday, Oct. 26.
The Colonel spread the news Saturday in TV commercials airing during college football broadcasts.
The chicken chain is celebrating the popularity of its lower-on-the-grease-scale grilled chicken. But this time around, there are no coupons to print -- just walk in and get one.
What you'll end up with is, as KFC states "manager's choice." To paraphrase Oprah, "You get a drumstick! And you get a drumstick. And you get a drumstick!"
Here's what you can expect, calorie-wise, from a free piece of KFC grilled chicken:
The last time KFC gave away chicken, bedlam ensued. Oprah Winfrey had plugged the free KFC grilled chicken meal on her show and had viewers go to her Web site to print out a coupon. Internet traffic jams, malfunctions and crashes caused more gnashing of teeth than a free chicken dinner.
The Colonel is betting that you won't dash out with just a free piece of grilled chicken. But choose your extras wisely. A lone biscuit has 180 calories. As for the best sides, try the green beans at 25 calories, a 3-inch corn on the cob for 70 calories, the mean greens for 30 calories or the three-bean salad at 70 calories.
