June 12 is Philippine Independence Day. Annual Parades are held in different parts of the United States for Filipino Americans to celebrate their heritage and culture. The largest annual Philippine Independence Day Parade is held every first Sunday of June is in New York City along Madison Avenue from 23rd to 40th Streets.

Here in the Bay Area, Filipino American organizations hold different events to celebrate Philippine Independence day to promote and preserve our culture and raise funds for different projects.  There will be parades, fairs and cultural shows.

On June 12 at 7:00pm, Jazz singer/songwriter Anna Maria Flechero will be hosting a sneak preview at Club Anton to benefit the 2nd Annual Filipino American Jazz Festival (August 8 and 9). She will be performing with other Filipino American jazz artists like Ann Marie Santos, Raquel, Little Brown Brother and Anna Maria Flechero.

The Philippine Independence Celebration will be held this weekend, June 13 & 14 at the Civic Center Plaza. The event will showcase Filipino American entertainment, food, arts and pop culture. Famous Filipino celebrities like Heart Evangelista, Richard Gomez, Lucy Torres, Charlie Green, Nora Aunor and many more will also be there.

Also see the KARIKTAN Dance Company on June 13 & 14 and the Parangal Dance Company on June 27 & 28 at the 31ST ANNUAL San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival held in the Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco.

You will not only have fun when you go to these events but you will also be helping in promoting the Filipino culture and raise funds to support different charity projects.
