University of Alabama football picked up its 18th verbal commit for the 2010 class this past weekend. Jarrick Williams verbally committed to Alabama according to all the major recruiting sites (BamaMag, BamaOnLine & CrimsonConfidential.) Some sites may only list 16 committed players but that’s because they hold back on two players that have gone to junior college due to academics. Those two players are Devonta Bolton & Brandon Lewis who are teammates on the same defense for East Mississippi CC. Neither of those two players have wavered from their original college decision despite still being recruited by other schools. Here are my thoughts on new verbal Jarrick Williams, the updated 2010 verbal commit list and some notes from Alabama recruiting.
Jarrick Williams is a 6’2 205-pound safety from Blount High School in Prichard, Alabama. He’s the fourth defensive back in the 2010 class and regarded as the #4 safety in the country by Rivals.com. He is another great player from the highly-coveted Mobile area and one of the top players in the entire state.
Williams has a great combination of ball skills and ability to play the run at the line of scrimmage. He is a tall, strong and physical player with speed and quickness of a smaller player. He seems to have great football instincts, making the right decision on which holes to fill against the run. His timing is excellent in leaping at just the right time in pass coverage to beat the receiver to the football. He’s an impressive kid. His decision came down to Alabama and Auburn. He held 25 scholarship offers (ESPN affiliate CrimsonConfidential.) He still plans to take some visits (Scout.com.) He told Andrew Bone from Scout.com that, “Coach Saban is a great coach. He don’t play.” Understatement of the year! Those are true words spoken by Jarrick Williams. Well done!
