(AP Photo/Kevork Djansezian)On Friday night in Tampa, Hank Steinbrenner spoke to the Associated Press as he has so often in the past few months.

This time, the topic was free agents and while the quote was short, it was telling and specific.

"Yes," Steinbrenner said when asked if an offer was made to Sabathia. "And we're prepared to make offers to Burnett and Lowe."

In addition to Joba Chamberlain and Chien Ming Wang the Yankees would do very well for themselves to secure two of the three pitchers Hank mentioned, plus either Andy Pettitte or Mike Mussina.

Sabathia is the undisputed top free agent pitcher though Derek Lowe’s value is often underestimated.  For more on Lowe’s success read here.

Conversely, AJ Burnett’s potential is often cited as his upside, but his track record has given few indications of consistent success.  For more on that read here.
