Flu vaccines for the first time have become mandatory for hundreds of thousands of health care workers around the country. Yet even as the swine flu specter continues to loom large, many health care workers are balking at mandatory flu vaccines. They question both the safety of the rapidly developed and little-tested swine flu vaccine and the big dollar signs in the eyes of the pharmaceutical companies who produce them.
British newspapers have reported that up to 60% of doctors oppose being immunized because they are concerned the safety trials have been rushed. And a Washington Post article stated, "A survey of 1,500 British nurses conducted in August by the Nursing Times found that one-third would not get the vaccine because of safety concerns."
Back in the U.S., as the state of New York, the largest hospital chain in the country, and other private health corporations initiate mandatory swine flu vaccination programs, many thousands of doctors, nurses, and other health sector employees are questioning whether their employers have the right to force them to inject little-tested substances into their bodies in the form of a mandatory vaccine.
An article in today's USA Today demonstrates this with its title, "N.Y. health care workers protest mandatory H1N1 flu shots." According to this revealing piece:
Several hundred health-care workers, civil libertarians and members of anti-vaccine groups on Tuesday railed against a mandate that medical professionals get seasonal and swine-flu vaccines. Nurses and other health-care workers said they shouldn't be forced to get a vaccine that they don't believe has been tested appropriately as a condition of keeping their jobs.
There is plenty of reason for concern. During a minor swine flu outbreak in 1976, the U.S. government mounted a massive vaccination campaign which resulted tens of millions of Americans submitting to an unnecessary swine flu vaccine.
Though only one person died as a result of this outbreak, side effects of the flu vaccine killed hundreds and permanently paralyzed thousands more. CBS's 60 Minutes produced a devastating documentary on the blatant fear mongering which maimed and killed so many, yet brought huge profits to the drug companies who produced the flu vaccine. Another fact of concern is that the government recently gave drug companies immunity against any damages which might be incurred by these flu vaccines. As quoted in this examiner.com article, "Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius has signed a document guaranteeing that neither the government nor industry will take responsibility for any damage or death caused by these vaccines, which have had very limited testing and are being produced under rushed circumstances." At least those harmed by the swine flu vaccine in 1976 had recourse to lawsuits.
Barbara Loe Fisher, President of the National Vaccine Information Center, is an outspoken critic of mandatory vaccines. In this powerful article on vaccine risks and dangers, she states:
In some states, like Massachusetts, public health doctors have persuaded legislators to quickly pass pandemic influenza legislation that will allow state officials to enter homes and businesses without the approval of occupants; to investigate and quarantine individuals without their consent; to require licensed health care providers to give citizens vaccines and to ban the free assembly of citizens in the state.

And it's worth mentioning that Adrian Gibbs, a scientist on the team that developed the swine flu drug Tamiflu, submitted a report stating that swine flu may have been man-made.
