While the EPL has yet to get near the halfway point, things are heating up in the MLS.
No one, and certainly not the Houston Dynamo, saw the blindside sucker punch coming from the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. With a chance to wrap up a semifinal (“championship”) berth at home, the Dynamo conceded two first-half goals and failed to put away any of their own chances in an utterly shocking three-nil victory to put them in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Aggregate wins from Chicago and Columbus were not so surprising, and it’s a shame those two will have to square off in the Eastern Conference Championship and can’t meet in the finals. Instead we’ll have those two in one end and Real Salt Lake/NY in the other when the matches kick off later this week.
At this point Columbus remains the overall favorite, but it looks like New York is peaking at just the right time.
What do you think? Will Columbus be the last club standing?
