Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melvin and friends are all back for the new sequel to Madagascar. My 2.5 year old daughter Ava and I went to see Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa today. We both couldn't wait. Ava loves the original, so we thought we'd go see it on opening day just the two of us.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer, Sacha Baron Cohen and many more great talents. It picks up pretty much where the other movie left off, so you'll want to rent it. If you haven't seen the original and don't want to rent it, you'll still be able to follow along and pick up easily on the plot.

If you liked the original adventure, you'll like this one too. There were plenty of jokes for adults mixed in with lots of kids fun. Madagascar 2 features songs throughout that will have little ones dancing in their seats (or their eyes glued to the screen). And of course, in the end, friendship prevails and saves the day, which is a nice lesson. This one does have a little violence in it, like a granny throwing some punches and a scene where some hunters shoot at a lion but everyone survives.

At about an hour and a half long, you're little ones will be able to stay entertained the whole time. A good time will be had by all.

Here's the trailer:
