The children's doggie adventure movie Bolt hit movies theaters today in what Disney is calling digital 3D, which means it looks really cool but you don't need goggles to see it. And it is fantastic!

Bolt is a touching and really sweet movie in true old fashioned Disney style with all of the modern cool touches of animation that has realistic appeal. The Walt Disney picture stars John Travolta, Miley Cyrus and Susie Essman and is about the adventures of a dog named Bolt who thinks he's an action hero with incredible powers. But that's because Bolt was raised in a TV studio. He gets into the real world, where the story unfolds. Bolt learns that his true powers are found in loyalty.

I just got home from seeing this with my 2.5 year old daughter. We both really enjoyed it. She sat there watching closely giggling at the silly kitty and puppy's adventures. If you're a pet person, make sure you bring a kleenex or two for the end. I'm not, as they say, a "crier," but the end of this movie had me all worked up! I can't think of the last time a kids movie made me cry at the end.

Travolta and Essman are both great in this. I never thought John Travolta and dogs had much in common but he was great as the voice of Bolt. Essman, who I like from the HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm, really stole the show. She plays the sassy sidekick cat Mittens who helps Bolt realize the important things in life on his journey. Extra comedic bits came from Rhino the hamster voiced by Mark Walton.

If your child likes cats and dogs they're sure to like this movie! Same for adults. This is one I'd go to again with or without my daughters. (Shhh, don't tell them.)

To see if your little ones seem interested in this one before you make the trek to the crowded theaters (and it WILL be crowded between this one and Twilight), check out the trailer is below. Also take a look at the official Bolt website HERE. It has lots of other videos to preview, plus games, downloads and more about the characters and storyline.
