Fourth of July Celebrations around Eastern Nebraska
The Fourth of July, Independence Day, a time when our country celebrates it birth. There are multiple events that are appropriate for smaller children happening in the metro this weekend. The first, and most popular, is the fireworks display put on at Rosenblatt Stadium. This will occur Friday, 3 July 09, starting 45 minutes after the game which is approximately 9:30-10:00pm. This is a guess from previous years’ display. The theme this year is 80s music to celebrate the display’s 25th anniversary and will be simulcast at the stadium as well as on Star 104.5FM. If you are daring enough to attend the game with our Omaha Royals playing the New Orleans Zephyrs starting at 6:35pm, there will be a shuttle running from Oak View and Westroads malls from 3:45pm-7pm. The shuttles will run return trips starting at 15 minutes after the end of the fireworks. The shuttle does cost $3.00 to benefit the Papillion Little League. If you do not want to go to the game but would still like to see the fireworks, there is excellent viewing from the Bass Pro Shop and Midamerica center area in Council Bluffs, IA. The fireworks display will be 22 minutes long.
Another celebration is happening in Ralston on Friday evening as well as Saturday. On Friday at Ralston Park, 80th St and Park Dr, the events are: a picnic, pie-baking contest and live music. Also, several dances, including a family street dance, will occur at 77th St and Main St on Friday evening as well. On Saturday, there will be a fun run at 7:50am. There will be two parades, live music, and Fire Department water fights to round out the day. The Fourth of July fireworks display for Ralston will be placed near the Lakeview Golf Course at 72nd St and Q St at dusk.
In Seward, a full day of celebrations will be held on Saturday. Festivities include a craft market, air show, food vendors, a parade, trolley rides, and a concert. Fireworks display is at 10:00pm at Plum Creek Park off Karol Kay Blvd (266) and Waverly Rd.
