Wizards forward Caron Butler and Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas are using the month of September to give back to the community, both locally and internationally.
Butler Helps Out in South Africa
For Butler, today marks the second day of a five day campaign in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the NBA Cares initiative within the Basketball Without Borders program. While in South Africa, Butler will provide camp services in which the youth of South Africa will be taught fundamental basketball skills, such as teamwork and leadership, as well as education in terms of a being health conscious and aware of HIV/AIDS and the prevention methods necessary to combat its spread.
Arenas Joins Magic in Pursuit to Help Homeless
On Saturday, September 13th, the Verizon Center will host Freddie Mac's Hoops for the Homeless, which generated over $900,000 dollars last year for local, non-profit charities. Arenas will join NBA legend, Magic Johnson, as well as Wizards teammates, as they provide entertainment and awareness for the local community. For those interested in helping out, Autographed merchandise from both Arenas and Magic are available for consideration, as well as several other Washington Wizards related items. Supporters can bid on the items until Monday, September 15th.
