After initially being diagnosed with the Flu, British rock icon Sir Elton John has checked into King Edward VII, an elite hospital near the town of Marylebone, just outside London, for the treatment. This comes just days after performing a sold-out concert in Barcelona, Spain. According to reports, John had been battling flu-like symptoms for that past two weeks, and as condition worsened on Friday, he was check into a hospital near his London home where the doctors diagnosed him with influenza and a case of E. coli bacterial infection.
According to The Daily Mail, John’s partner David Furnish spent most of the Saturday at his bedside at the Marylebone hospital. King Edward VII Hospital has provided John with a suite in their private ward, as well as private medical staff. In the past, the facility has been used by members of the Royal Family during times of medical need.
The Daily Mail further reported that John has been visited by a host of celebrity friends, including Sam Taylor-Wood, a British conceptual artist. His partner has been quoted by the local British tabloids as saying, "He is doing well. He is recovering nicely."
Friday's hospitalization has forced John to cancel several UK dates of his Red Piano tour. In addition to the UK dates, it is being reported that Sir Elton will now have to postpone upcoming dates alongside his American Piano Man counterpart, Billy Joel. The dynamic duo, who played Nashville back in May, as part of their Face 2 Face tour, have now postponed two Seattle dates originally scheduled for this coming Wednesday, November 4 and Saturday, November 7, as well as a November 10 Portland appearance.
This isn't the first time the tour has faced difficulties. Back in July, it was Joel who fell ill and was forced to cancel several tour dates. According to a notice on John's site, if he is able, he and Joel will take to the stage on November 14 in Oakland, CA to resume their tour, which has dates set through the first week of December.
