America's Top Ten Most Infamous Haunted Places
Infamous. Notorious. Not the most haunted and not even, necessarily, the most popular. Today I am trying to lock down the Top Ten Most Infamous Haunted Places in the US!
10.
Moundsville State Penitentiary -Among many, the ghost of a "stool-pigeon" janitor is said to haunt the lower levels where he was cut to shreds by angry inmates.
9.
Lizzy Borden House -"Lizzy Borden took an axe and gave her father 40 whacks; and when she'd seen what she had done, she gave her mother forty-one."
8.
Winchester Mystery House -Sarah Winchester was the widow of the inventor of the Winchester repeating rifle. A medium told her that the souls of all those who were killed by Winchester rifles would come for her if she ever stopped building onto her house. Now this Mystery Mansion has doors that lead to two-story drops and stairs that go into ceilings! Not to mention all the ghosts!
7.
Alcatraz -Perhaps the world's most infamous prison is kept alive by its brutal history and tales of spiritual visitations.
6. Queen Mary -Ghost children must be the creepiest type of haunting and they freely roam the corridors of the Queen Mary according to several TV specials there.
5. Gettysburg, PA -The most haunted place in the world? Perhaps. But not as haunted as some claim or there wouldn't be any debate over the existance of ghosts.
4. Lemp Mansion -Suicides and beer mark the history of the super rich and equally eccentric family that lived here.
3. Myrtles Plantation- Although many of the hauntings here have no basis in history, it still is quite infamous.
2. Eastern State Penitentiary -This place has been on ghost hunter-type cable shows so often I am almost getting tired of hearing about it. Almost.
1. Waverly Hills Sanatorium -Not 60,000 but more like 6,000 people died here. Still a lot of people dead from TB! Believe the hype - this place was where I first experienced something truly paranormal!
I am sure some people will be wondering why their favorite haunted place isn't on this list and I am looking forward to hearing about it in the Comments section.
