While the world of the serialized drama owns the bragging rights to never ending drama--some of it over the top by the way, they are also noted for their ability to inject a dose of comedy into the mix from time to time. Nowhere is this more evident than on One Life to Live' and the interaction between David Vickers and Dorian Lord. While Tuc Watkins as David Vickers rises to the comedic challenge no matter what scene he is involved with or which character he interacts with--but whenever he is paired with Robin Strasser as Dorian Lord the laughs are guaranteed.
This couple together get everything right from comedic timing to the kind of facial expressions that bring everything humorous to a new level. Quite simply, they are slapstick comedy at its best.
I am loving David as Dorian's campaign manager as she enters into Llanview's mayoral race against the squeaky clean Victoria Banks. David wants a hefty salary from Dorian as well as free room and board under her roof. She reluctantly agrees but wants David to earn his money. She wants an immediate strategy to bring her opponent down. David believes he can handle this if he and Dorian send Charlie (Victoria's husband guy/campaign manager) on a wild goose chase so Vickers can seduce Victoria and all this will be documented after Dorian stashes a discreet paparazzi in the bushes to capture every Kodak moment. Dorian believes David has lost his marbles and David suddenly gets it.
David catches on quickly that Dorian isn't totally focused on her campaign at this moment after she mentions Todd's wedding to Tea and Blair's obsession with stopping that wedding David immediately suspects Dorian is plotting away because she hates Todd, and needs Tea to marry him so niece Blair will move on.
David's ability to tap into Dorian's brain and all her twisted plots is the only reason I would even dare to compare the laugh out loud scenes between this couple to the nothing less than hysterical scenes between Lucy and Ricky.
I was just wondering though, how many times do you think Dorian will threaten to fire David during the course of her campaign? I suppose that question is right up there with the old "guess how many jelly beans" are in this jar type of challenge. The predictions are impossible but there is no doubt this will be one hell of an amusing campaign.
