The Young and the Restless has been a favorite soap of mine for a very long time, but as of late, more often than not, I find myself fast forwarding through several convoluted plots that are so uncharacteristic of this show. Try as I might to stay focused on the lasted wacky caper involving Jenna, Kevin, Amber, and Daniel, I have to admit the entire art theft thing is lost on me. With Deacon tossed into the mix set to marry a woman whose skin crawls whenever she looks at him, I am left scratching my head as to where all of this is going. What happened to Amber and where is Mrs. "C" when we really need her? She is one of the few female characters who have remained strong throughout the duration of this show.
Psycho Mary Jane/Patty has been driving private investigator Paul nuts these days. It was interesting that as soon as she slid into her disguise sporting a blond wig topped off by a new hat that it finally hit Paul that this woman could be his sister. For months Paul has been trying to figure out why there is something so familiar about her and the very time she tries to make herself look different, Paul catches on to who she really is. Jack was as clueless when it came to Mary Jane as well and you would have thought between Paul and Jack they would have been able to figure out the connection between the two long before now. I guess Paul really does need those new glasses of his.
Victor's latest move having his little show and tell moment with Victoria where he produced photos of Colleen and J.T. sharing a kiss after having J.T. followed by a private investigator was the lowest. Victoria is hardly the injured party hear given the fact that she was off doing similar things with Deacon (yes, and Deacon may need her again because Amber isn't intending to fullfill his needs) but naturally, Vivtoria is coming across as the victim. For some reason, I have never been able to warm up to Victoria.
Victor's motivation to have J.T. trailed wasn't strictly for Victoria's sake either. He's got to be slightly apprehensive about the investigation J.T. and Paul are conducting into Mary Jane's background and he is desperately trying to protect himself. Those photos were simply an unexpected bonus. It is slightly laughable that a trained P.I. can be followed by another skilled P.I. and become the subject of incriminating photos. Isn't a private investigator supposed to be able to spot someone following them?
Ashley's hysterical pregnancy and fragile mental state is also growing old. Rumors are circulating that she will end up with Sharon's baby somehow--perhaps when Jack and Billy have her committed to the same mental institution Sharon has checked into. Many fans believe Adam's doctor pal will be working at the facility and Adam will convince him to tell Sharon her child was stillborn. Say it ain't so! Personally, I would not be able to take it if that scenario came into play.
Please Y&R, give us a break and end some of these brutally boring storylines. We are tired of plots connected to the underground art world, and more than a few of us are sick of weak female characters who don't have the strength to kick a guy to the curb when he deserves it, pick themselves up, dust themselves off and move on. And please, let Ashley face the truth about situation, as tragic as it is, so she can get her life back. We need for Victor to learn the truth about Adam and most of us would hate to see him find a way to cover his tracks by snagging Sharon's child for Ashley.
And, just one last thing. Kill the references to the Silver Chipmunk before I end up in an institution right along with Sharon and Ashley.
