There is something to be said for older characters on the who bring so much wisdom to various storylines on the soaps.  As the World Turns does this well and nowhere was it more evident today when Lucinda and Emma tried to reach their daughters regarding their love lives.

When Lily told Lucinda she was marrying Damian today, Lucinda thought her daughter was out of her mind.  We all call the rushing into another mans arms thing after believing your husband is dead, grief sex.  Lucinda simply called is misplaced grief and told Lily she could not attend her wedding.

In the meantime, Emma continued to grieve for her son and all Meg could talk about was her new, revived  relationship with Damian.  Emma was taken back as Meg explained she had a long talk with Damian and she honestly believed things were going to work out for them.  Later, Emma had a visit from Lily who told her she was marrying Damian tonight.  Emma truly had a long day and when Lily told her she was more than welcome to attend the wedding I just wanted to scream.  Lily needs a brain transplant or something and while Emma wanted to wish Lily all the happiness in the world because she knew deep down inside that Holden would never want her to go on alone she couldn't wish her well at this point.  In Emma's mind it was just too soon.

How did Lily become so pathetic and needy and for that matter, how did Meg become so weak and obsessed?  Lucinda and Emma's wisdom has been obviously lost on Lily and Meg, but I love seeing the wisdom they bring to Oakdale unfold even if it falls on deaf ears most of the time.  It provides a great backdrop for so many plot lines.

Lily is thrilled when Lucinda does come to her wedding in the end because Lucinda couldn't bring herself to abandon her troubled daughter's big day.  Meg watches through the door at Lily's house as Damian and Lily exchange vows but shortly after she gives up and goes home.  In the meantime, Luke is left once again without Noah attending this important family event because he is sitting in the passenger seat of Mason's vehicle which has allegedly just broken down.  Just as Lily and Damian are pronounced man and wife, Holden marches through the door.

I am thinking the "honey I'm home" line simply wasn't going to cut it given the events unfolding on today's episode of As the World Turns.  It's a good thing Lucinda is in the room and quite frankly we need more characters on the soaps like her and Emma.  It just makes sense.
