It's not breaking news by now that the iPod touch and iPhones have an application for nearly everything on earth, but it's still amazing to find out that Apple is giving away downloadable books for no charge (select books, mind you, but still they are the classics).
Such titles as Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and even Common Sense by Thomas Paine are among the list of freebies, but it doesn't stop there. There's actually an application called "WattPad", an app that gives anyone free access to more than 100,000 novels at no cost.
Unfortunately for individuals seeking the latter application, they must be owners of an iPhone, 3Gs or have bought the iPhone 3.0 update for their iPod touch (which is still only about ten dollars at the app store).
However, when the upgrade app is installed, a ton of new features and access to even more free books can become available.
Here are some other novels that are available for free at the app store: Alice in Wonderland, Wuthering Heights, A Tale of Two Cities, The Tell-Tale Heart (even in audiobook edition), and even Romeo and Juliet. Also, if an iPhone or iPod touch owner is trying to save disk space on their devices, they could also get all these books in one app for less than a dollar.
There really is an app for everything, even free books. There's even an application to use Kindle on these Apple devices.
