Today, thousands of bloggers around the world are blogging to bring attention and awareness to poverty. Often when people hear the word poverty they think of about something that happens to other people in other countries.
The fact of the matter is, there are millions of people who live in poverty in the United States and poverty hits some groups more than others, specifically children. If you think you don't know a child living in poverty, think again. They go to school with your children, they're in your neighborhood, they attend your church, synagoge or mosque. According to the National Poverty Center, 17.8% of American children live in poverty.
So what can we do about it?
We can stop saying we and ask I. What can I do about it?
I can volunteer, I can donate money, I can use my voice to maintain a dialogue on poverty, write my congress people and I can do my research to learn other ways I can make a difference.
