The video clip below (posted on YouTube from someone at the scene) contains some of the footage of the altercation that took place after the Russ Carnahan town hall in a suburb of St. Louis. I can confirm this video is from the scene based on the location and the people I saw myself last night. The fight took place after the town hall had ended and Representative Carnahan had left the area. A full description of events leading up to the fight can be found here.
The video reveals some new information about the altercation. The men and women with purple shirts are SEIU (Service Employees International Union) members. When the video appears on the two men one of the SEIU members is on the ground. At that point another SEIU member still standing appears to grab someone standing over his buddy from behind and pull him down to the ground. Some men in the middle appear to be attempting to stop the fight. Kudos to those gentlemen.
After the men are all separated an African-American man who we can presume, though it is not confirmed, to be Kenneth C. Gladney then claims that he was attacked by the African-American member of SEIU. The SEIU members claim that they themselves were attacked as an argument ensues between all involved. Unfortunately, the video does not provide definitive proof of how the altercation started to substantiate either man's claims.
