You know things are going bad for you as a Republican when Karl Rove starts questioning your political strategy. In a recent CNN article Karl Rove called Palin's resignation a "risky" strategy. Most damning Rove said that "It is not clear what she's doing and why." If Rove a fellow Republican did not understand why Palin is resigning what hope is there for the rest of the population to understand.
I personally am not a huge fan of Rove's but I will give the man credit for being a great political strategist. I firmly believed there was no way for George W. Bush to win the presidency in 2000 but Rove pulled off a brilliant strategy which enabled Bush to take the White House (albeit with some controversy in between). As a Republican if Rove told me I was making a risky political move I would be very concerned.
For her part Palin claims that she is being held to a double standard once more regarding her resignation. She claims she clearly explained why she was leaving and those who know her best understand her reasoning perfectly. Maybe those closest to her do understand her decision but I do not believe a majority of Americans do and that could lead to problems for Palin in the future. As to her claim of a double standard, I personally can not think of another example in which a sitting Governor left office a year and half early and got a free pass on the decision from the media. If anyone else knows of such an example I in all sincerity would like to be educated as to the incident.
