When the Porsche Panamera travels, it travels in style. We’re not sure whether the 31 Panameras traveling from Leipzig to California were served mixed nuts and champagne before takeoff, but when the first 31 were loaded on to a Boeing 747 they were, in automotive shipping terms, travelling first class.
Well enough, we suppose, as the 31 Porsche Panamera were on their way to their first North American viewing at some of the most prestigious automotive events on the continent. The new Porsche four-place grand tourers will be guests of honor during the Monterey Peninsula Automotive Week (August 9-16), including automotive celebrations at Quail Lodge, the 36th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway—where Porsche is the featured marque—and the renowned Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The cars were loaded aboard the aircraft in Leipzig, where they are produced alongside the Porsche Cayenne sports utility vehicle. After the 31 are through wowing the public in California, we’re told they will be kept under lock and key and then used for media, public relations and training…and with any luck, we’ll get one for a long term test vehicle. After all, we deserve to travel in style, too.
The 2010 Porsche Panamera officially goes on sale October 17, 2009.
