Tragedy struck close to old Boxingconfidential.com friend and Miami fight manager Murray Gaby as one of his former boxers has been charged with a double murder.

A colorful artist and successful advertising executive Gaby handled many fighters including Lou Esa and famed New Jersey jailbird James Scott. Gaby worked closely with Chris and Angelo Dundee during the halcyon era of the Fifth Street Gym in Miami Beach.

Police in Hollywood, Fl., say that William “Italian Hammer” Medei, 52, murdered his 13-year-old stepson, Jose Bader, and also killed the boy’s mother, Renee Bader, 42, in a trailer park. Medei was recently married to Bader and was working as a security guard at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel-Casino.

A native of Schenectady, N.Y., Mediei began his pro career as a middleweight, winning nine out of his first 10 matches. The only name that jumps out of his record is Bobby Czyz who stopped him in four round.

Medei went without a pro bout for almost a decade and came back as a hapless heavyweight, losing his last six bouts including KO losses to Rey Minus, Eliseo Castillo and Andre Purlette.

Reports say that Medei had drug and alcohol problems.

His pro record is 16-11-3 with nine knockouts.
