It's rare to see the characters in a comic strip take aim at C-list celebrities, but the oddball kids in "Soup to Nutz" are taking a stand against former MTV hostess Jenny McCarthy.
The blonde starlet has come out vociferously against giving kids vaccines, which she believes contributed to her child's autism. It's a controversial stance, and one that "Soup to Nutz' creatorRick Stromoski isn't going to take lying down.
In today's strip, lunkheaded Royboy is railing against giving kids vaccines, and he cites Ms. McCarthy's chatter as a "reliable source." The trouble? Ms. McCarthy isn't a doctor, just a celebrity who has done a lot of reading and talking. And young Andrew suggests she may be less than reliable, given that she's best known for having "a TV show about foofing and burping."
Look, it's one thing to make fun of the president or a prominent politician, or even make reference to a big-name movie star or starlet. But it's quite another to take on a celebrity with a pet cause or peeve. Mr. Stromoski is on firm ground taking on Ms. McCarthy's credentials. I just wonder if her fans will treat him courteously.
