Which Avengers will make the cut for their movie?

If Marvel makes a movie about its flagship super-hero team, the Avengers, well, you might think that a lot of the characters that have been featured in that ensemble would show up on screen. But recent remarks from a Marvel executive suggest the comic book publisher might be a little more selective when it comes to figuring out which heroes will get face time.

As you can read here on Collider.com,Marvel is at present looking to feature Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Nick Fury, and maybe "some members of the Hulk universe," according to executive Kevin Feige. While having these heroes appear may well be a foregone conclusion - Marvel is readying releases featuring all of them in coming years - fans could be disappointed that other flagship characters may not be as in demand.

After all, Ant-Man and the Wasp were two of the team's founding members, and other characters - the archer Hawkeye, for one, and brother-and-sister duo Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch for another - have been Avengers of long standing. And what about Wonder Man? Jocasta? Ms. Marvel? The Black Knight? Does this mean they won't make the cut?

Nothing is true of a Hollywood project until it ends up on the screen. Given the sheer number of characters in the X-Men films, it seems somewhat implausible that the Avengers will only feature a handful of members. Even so, these are tough times and budgets are no doubt under scrutiny. But I've got a feeling fans will be disappointed if the Avengers movie ony makes use of a "fantastic four."
