Senator Arlen Spector also known as Senator Arlen "The Traitor" Spector will be running as a Democrat in 2010. Spector stated: "I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary...Since my (first) election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

Here is what started this dispute the Republican Party was against the Obama big spending “stimulus” bill. Spector along with two other Republican Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe supported the bill. The bill contained pork barrel spending such as, nearly $8 billion for more than 8,500 pet projects favored by lawmakers, including $1.7 million for a honey bee laboratory in Weslaco, Tex.; $346,000 for research on apple fire blight in Michigan and New York; and $1.5 million for work on grapes and grape products, including wine. All of the house republicans voted against the bill in unity to oppose the spending. The Bill would not have passed the senate without the liberal votes of Spector, Snowe and Collins. The Republican party wanted to show unity in its opposition to the spending plan. Therefore the party said there would be consequences if they chose to vote for it. Those consequences are including a republican primary challenger.

On March 17, Senator Spector was asked about switching parties and he replied: “I am staying a Republican because I think I have an important role, a more important role, to play there. The United States very desperately needs a two-party system. That's the basis of politics in America. I'm afraid we are becoming a one-party system, with Republicans becoming just a regional party with so little representation of the northeast or in the middle atlantic. I think as a governmental matter, it is very important to have a check and balance. That's a very important principle in the operation of our government in the constitution on Separation of powers.” So why switch parties?

It is simple he won’t be reelected. The Republican Party didn’t like his vote on the stimulus bill and have found a strong candidate to challenge him. Republican Pat Toomey showed a significant lead in polls. Many Americans, angry over bank bailouts, auto bailouts and misuse of tarp funds, weren’t so keen on pork laden Stimulus bill and thus Spector lost his base. But that is not all he will face a Democratic opponent in the 2010 primary that will be left politically of him and will challenge him more than he thinks. One of whom are going to be possibly running in the Primary, is Congressman Patrick Murphy. At only 35-years-old, Congressman Murphy, an Iraq War veteran now serving his second term in Congress, is considered a rising star in the Party. Some of his pluses are quite obvious: his military experience brings unique perspective and his relative youth would allow him to build seniority over the years for Pennsylvania.

Apparently VPJoe Biden has had weekly conversations with Senator Spector since the start of the administration (according to politico). Was this done to bribe him into supporting Obama Policies? Is this payback for supporting those very policies? It would seem so. Why else would the President throw his pledge of support including campaign money and time to Spector. This is politics at its worst; the fix is in as part of his traitorous action today the President has promised to campaign for him.

Republican Party head Michael Steele said: "Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not.
Let's be honest-Senator Specter didn't leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record.
Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don't do it first."

I agree Arlene Spector will find out how loyal his new party is when Obama does very little to support him and he loses his primary. After all who wants to support Benedict Arnold 2009.
