NASA will initiate the first bilingual agency with the help of an astronaut who will be posting his tweets in English and Spanish about his preparation aboard the space shuttle scheduled for August and it’s the first of its kind to happen in the new technology age.
Jose Hernandez, NASA astronaut, will be embarking on the journey to space and will let followers know about all the updates and occurrences. Hernandez grew up in a migrant farming family traveling from Mexico to California every year, according to the NASA news release.
Hernandez has said it was always his dream to one day work in Space. He hopes that he can excite people about space, science and engineering while reminding many to pursue their dreams, according to the news release.
Hernandez was selected in 2004, and this will be his first spaceflight on the STS-128 shuttle mission that will continue the assembly of the International Space Station.
His duties will be the following: oversee the transfer of supplies and equipment between the shuttle and station, assist with robotics operations and serve as a flight engineer in the shuttle cockpit during launch and landing, according to the release.
It is the first time in history to feature to Latino astronauts. Danny Olivas will be accompanying Hernandez on this mission.
The demographics of Twitter registered users are predominantly Caucasian. The percentage of Hispanics using the social media website, according to Istrategylabs.com and JMorgan Marketing its 6 percent. According to Istrategylabs.com there are more visitors of other ethnicities than the average.
Hernandez worked for years in his area of expertise, and has received many distinguishing awards making him more than the qualifying candidate.
