Boise Internationa Mountain Bike Film Festival

CORRECTION - The original article had the correct date, but wrong day of the week listed.  The film festival will indeed be on Wednesday, June 10.

The Visual Arts Collective in Garden City will host Cycles of Life – International MTB Film Festival Boise 2009 on Wednesday, June 10th with two screenings of the feature-length movie Freedom Riders and other mountain biking short films at 5:30 and 8:30 PM.

Frequent readers may recall that Freedom Riders was originally scheduled to be shown as a fundraiser for the Idaho Velodrome and Cycling Park (IVCP) in WHATEVER MONTH. The organizers decided that some coarse language in the film wasn’t appropriate for all ages, however, and showed an alternate film instead. Since the Visual Arts Collective is a 21 and over facility the language should not be an issue. A previous article describing the movie about downhill trails on public land  can be found here

Two short films from England will also be shown. One film titled Home includes footage of trials phenom Danny Macaskill. The film debuted at the Glasgow International Bike Film Festival in Scotland last month. Somw of Mackaskill's riding can be seen below.

The festival will also include a trade show of local bike-related companies, and each showing will conclude with a drawing for one of two bikes donated by Joyride Cycles as well as other items donated by local businesses. Proceeds from the festival will go to the IVCP, SWIMBA, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Click here to learn more about the humanitarian work that the International Rescue Committee does in Boise and abroad. SWIMBA has decided to donate its portion of the proceeds back to local chapter of the IRC, as well.

Tickets for the event cost $12 and are available on-line and at the door. Each paid admission includes one entry to the raffle.

The Visual Arts Collective is located at 3638 Osage Street in Garden City. A map can be found here. Tickets can be purchased at the Visual Art Collective’s website. Call (208) 424-8297 for more information. The Visual Arts Collective is a 21 and over venue.

Got an upcoming event?  Send me an email with details about the event and I'll include it in an upcoming listing.  Please feel free to send me your review of the film festival or any of the films shown.
