So you might be wondering what Ferrari and Pink Floyd have in common.  You might be saying to yourself, well the classic song "Money" is about the excesses that having a ton of money might bring, and certainly that might just include a stable of Ferraris.

Well, acutally Pink Floyd's drummer Nick Mason has been collecting Ferraris and other fine sports cars ever since The Floyd became a huge success in the late 60's and early 1970's.   Mason started racing in the early 1960's with an Austin 7.

He is well known in the automotive world, not just for owning one of the most sought after Ferraris of all time, the 1962 GTO, but also for driving it in the snow to take his kids to school when it was the only car that he could get started on that cold winter day.  He has even written a book on his favorite cars and what it is like to drive them.

"Into The Red: 22 Classic Cars That Shaped a Century of Motor Sport" chronicles his personal experiences with some of world's greatest cars.  The book even comes with a CD that includes the sounds of each car's engine at speed.  Not just another rock star who fancies himself a racing driver, Nick Mason has actually raced in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race.

Further proof of Nick Mason's status as a well respected collector is that he was personally chosen by Ferrari to purchase one of the very limited Ferrari Enzo supercars.  When it comes to these limited edition Ferraris, the factory actually hand picks the customers that they deem worthy of purchasing their cars.  These collectors usually own many Ferraris and are also chosen to keep the cars from being  bought for investment purposes.

Nick Mason's earliest childhood memories are of his father's Bentley.  He owns many rare and beautiful sports cars including a Maserati 250 "Birdcage",  D Type Jaguar, McLaren F1, and several Ferrars including an F40, Le Mans 512 Berlinetta Boxer,  and of course the Ferrari GTO.  Mason is the real deal when it comes to true automotive enthusiasts, and of course he is a legend in the music world for his founding role in Britain's best known Psychedelic rock group.
