Once a week I am going to post pictures from my traveling adventures. 1, because it gives me a reason to relive my experiences and 2, because I like to share. This week, because Spring is here and the warmer weather is making me crave the beach and a bathing suit I'm going back to November 2006 when I Spring Breaked in FIJI!
In 2006, I studied abroad in Newcastle, Australia through a program called Australearn. Being in that part of the world gave me the option of doing a "backpacker's tour" of the a group of Fijian Islands. I scheduled my trip through STA Travel, an organization specializing in travel for youth, students, teachers and recent college grads. They have many a trip up there sleeve--with and without groups. But they are accustomed to working on a student's budget.
I did everything while island hopping from sunburning half, yes, only half of my face, to cave diving, to swimming with the sharks, to getting violently sea sick, and sharing quarters with island rats. We picked our own food out of trees and caught our own proteins. I scuba dived with coral more beautiful than that of the Great Barrier Reef and I met some pretty entertaining internationals. Did I mention, it was right between political coups and the trip was almost cancelled? And I did all of this for under $2,000 AUS--this was of course before the economy tanked.
