NASCAR penalizes truck teams after brawl

NASCAR penalized three Craftsman Truck series teams Wednesday for a post race pit road altercation last weekend at New Hampshire.

After last Saturdays event a scuffle erupted on pit road between the crews of Todd Bodine and David Starr. During the race Starr had made contact with the truck of Bodine spinning him into the wall. Then Bodine ran into the rear bumper of Starr’s truck on the cool down after the race.

When Starr parked his truck on pit road, it appeared that one of Bodine’s crewmembers attempted to reach in and pull Starr from the truck. The crews then came together in a wild brawl that took NASCAR officials several minutes to break up.

Wednesday NASCAR announced that they had levied penalties against the No. 30, 11 and 9 teams.

 Mike Hillman Jr., crew chief for Todd Bodine, Mark Hillman, crew member for Bodine, and William Divel, crew member for David Starr have been suspended from Las Vegas and through September 24th.

Hillman Jr. was also fined $2,500 and had his NASCAR probation extended through the rest of the year while Mark Hillman and Divel were been fined $1,500 and put on probation the rest of the year.

Starr was fined $10,000 and put on probation the rest of the year and Richard Gay, crew chief for Starr, and Jason Overstreet, crew chief for David Reutimann, were both been fined $1,000 and placed on probation the rest of the year.

Also, crewmembers Brandon Hopkins (Bodine team) and Tony Jilson (Reutimann team) were placed on probation the rest of the year and owners Steve Germain, Tom DeLoach and Bob Germain have had each of their respective teams placed on probation until Dec. 31.

Officials from Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the site of this weeks Truck series race, had invited the crew of Todd Bodine and of David Starr to square off in a tug-of-war match as part of pre-race activities.

No word if any of the teams would actually accept the invitation.
