Subject: Marijuana enforcement during 2008 Democratic National Convention
On August 20, 2008, the Denver Marijuana Policy Review Panel established under Denver Municipal Code Art. 5, Div 3, Sec. 38-176 Enforcement Priority – Marijuana, officially adopted the following Resolution:
The Marijuana Policy Review Panel recommends that the Denver Police Department should refrain from arresting, detaining, or issuing a citation to any adult 21 years of age or older for the private possession of up to one ounce of marijuana during the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
The Denver Marijuana Policy Review Panel, which was appointed by the Hon. Mayor John Hickenlooper on December 21, 2007, to implement Denver Municipal Code Art. 5, Div 3, Sec. 38-176 to the greatest extent possible, consists of the following members:

Denver residents have already made their tolerant position on marijuana clear at the polls. In 2005, they voted to legalize marijuana possession by adults, and in 2007 they ordered police to make enforcement of laws against marijuana the "lowest priority."
Nevertheless, Denver police have continued to arrest marijuana users under state and federal law in defiance of the will of the voters.
