With all the Mardi Gras excitement of Fat Tuesday I almost forgot that President Barack Obama will be facing both a joint session of Congress tonight and a battery of cameras as the speech will be nationally televised. While it won't be an official State of the Union speech it has certainly been compared to one, as expectations are that Obama will address Republican hostility toward his economic policies and what the stimulus package means to the country. Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal will provide the Republican response.
The Address to Congress starts at 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST and will be shown on all the major news and cable networks. MSNBC will provide live online streaming, as will CBS News. CNN will not only carry it online, but is also interactively partnering again with Facebook as they did with the inauguration. ABC News will be live streaming the speech with Terry Moran addressing viewer reactions on Twitter.
Is it ironic or apt that we face and discuss the terrible economic situation we are in and the sacrifices we all have made and will continue to make on the eve of Lent, a traditional period of fasting? You decide.
