The Oscars are announced tomorrow, but the real stinkers got their day in the dumpster today … and I don’t just mean the news that former Velvet Revolver singer and bad Bowie wannabe Scott Weiland is bringing out a line of clothing
No, I’m talking about the Razzies.
The Razzies, the anti-Oscar awards for worst movies and worst performances in Hollywood, announced their nominations in Los Angeles today with Mike Myers' The Love Guru garnering a bucket of trash talk. The Razzies, which pride themselves on handing out dis-honors, will be fittingly awarded on February 21, one day before the Oscars.
Joining the formerly funny Myers flick in the Worst Movie category were Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans, spoofs that shared a "badly beaten dead horse of a concept" nomination, the lame horror of The Happening, the D&D wannabe In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, and The Hottie & the Nottie. The latter, a romantic comedy that was neither romantic nor at all intentional funny, had Ms. Paris Hilton in the lead and in my humble opinion, really truly was the worst film of 2008, end of story. No matter how bad The Love Guru could be, and it was terrible in parts, it could never compete with The Hottie and the Nottie.

The cast of The Women, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith and Meg Ryan, all shared a Worst Actress nomination. Jessica Alba joined them in that category for her role in The Love Guru, Cameron Diaz for What Happens in Vegas, the delightfully bad Paris Hilton and Kate Hudson for dual performances in Fool's Gold and My Best Friend's Girl.
Al Pacino's turn in 88 Minutes, a time span I will never get back having seen that movie, and Sir Ben "Gandhi" Kingsley, who truly soiled himself for being in The Love Guru, got Worst Actor nods, as to be expected did Mike Myers. Eddie Murphy, who received nominations last year as worst actor, worst supporting actor and worst supporting actress last year for his multiple roles in Norbit, was back this year as worst actor and worst screen couple for his roles in the flop Meet Dave. Larry the Cable Guy and Mark Wahlberg rounded out the category for Witless Protection, The Happening and Max Payne respectively.
