Is Heroes The Real Drama Behind Sarah Palin's Troopergate in Alaska?

October 11, 7:39 PM
by Dominic Patten, Pop Culture Examiner

I am a police officer ... or do I just play one on TV?

I'm just saying, take a look.

There's Mike Wooten.

He's Gov. Sarah Palin's ex-brother-in-law who she, according the 263-page report issued yesterday by the Alaska legislature, violated the state's Ethics Act among other things for trying to have him fired from the state police. Supposedly there were death threats against Palin's Father and other unproven allegation as Wooten, who has admitted to acting badly, including drinking beer on duty and tasering his stepson, was going through a bad divorce with her sister.

When Wooten wasn't fired, after some pretty gosh darn it pressure from Palin and her husband Todd, it then appears Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, who was getting the heat to do something from the Palins, was given the boot. The report's findings, after a convoluted process of Palin, her husband and others saying they would testify and then not participating, says Monegan not firing Trooper Wooten when the Palins suggested it was "not the sole reason" but was "likely a contributing factor" to his being let go.

Then there's Matt Parkman, played by Greg Gunberg on the hit NBC series Heroes.

Also in law enforcement - in his case, the LAPD, then a detective with the NYPD and then, sometime in the future, the Director of Homeland Security.

A telepath, which admittedly from his appearance on Larry King back in September, Wooten is certainly not ... unless that's an act. Otherwise, think about the other similarities - both are sometimes aggressive and rash and went through a bad divorce. OK, I know that's a lot of guys, but look how alike they look.

Hmmm ... separated at birth? That's what the LA Times thinks. They also think Gunberg should play Wooten if there's a movie. If you ask me, this small town scandal gone large only has TV movie written all over it right now - but that could change.

Or is there something else we don't know going on in Sarah Palin's Alaska because this is starting to feel way more than simply Northern Exposure.

John McCain's solidly behind in the polls but could Mike Wooten be the smoking taser that finally knocks the Republican ticket out?

Or not?

Here's the other thing, step away from the unreality of politics, perception and the law for a sec - admittedly a big step. This self styled pitbull sister wants to do right by her sister and get rid of her no good brother-in-law, which while not right for the Governor of Alaska to do, is you know exactly what you would do it if it was your family and you were the Governor. Here's even more of a kicker, when she was Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin actually wrote letters of recommendation for the ex-Air Force Wooten to help hm get a job in law enforcement saying if "America had more people with the grace and sincerity that mirrors the character of Mike Wooten...we would have a much kinder, gentler, trustworthy nation as a result. …

In a way, while the Republican-dominated legislative council (sounds so Sci-Fi) is pretty condemning in its report, it ultimately does makes Palin seen even less of a professional politician doesn't it.

Very complex. Can't tell what's going on? Is Todd Palin really Nathan Petrelli with a goatee? Is Bristol Pallin the cheerleader? Very hard to tell.

God, I love Alaska! I quite like Heroes too.
