Now, onto part 2, this time about 25-year-old Buffalo Bills QB Trent Edwards, a player near and dear to us here in Silicon Valley since he went to Los Gatos High School and Stanford University.
For someone who said he originally didn't intend to play high school football, Edwards has come a long way...and his intelligent approach to improving over the off-season indicates this could be a strong season.
From BuffaloNews.com, there is a look at Trent Edwards and how he prepared to arrive at training camp fit by keeping focused on December and January even when he was working out in June and July.
According to writer Mark Gaughan, "Like most NFL players, Edwards sought out extra conditioning work during the team's six-week break before the start of training camp."
Buffalobills.com site says that at the end of last season,
"Edwards felt he lacked the staying power to plow through the final quarter of the season with the same strength and endurance with which he started"
On the advice of quarterback Drew Brees of New Orleans, Edwards worked out with a San Francisco Bay Area trainer, Ross Headley, using the TRX system. Brees was familiar with TRX after it was part of his rehab for his potentially career-ending shoulder injury.
Writer Chris Brown describes TRX as "a suspension training system invented by a former Navy SEAL where the weight of your body is used to develop core strength, improve performance and stamina while reducing injury potential."
How much all this will help is yet to be seen. But it's definitely worth watching. For a bird's eye view of Edwards' impressions of the beginning of camp, check out this interview from WKBW.
