As if inactivity doesn't make us feel rotten enough - research now indicates that it leads to fatty liver disease
ScienceDaily ran an article titled, "Fatty Liver Disease: The Next Big Thing."
Here's the punch line: they've now discovered lack of aerobic exercise leads to fatty liver disease, which in turn leads to other serious diseases.
"Poor aerobic fitness is strongly associated with obesity and its consequent risks of heart disease, strokes and diabetes ... [Now] New research in The Journal of Physiology connects low aerobic capacity to another serious condition – non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)...
Sufferers of NAFLD accumulate fat in their livers and have high levels of fat in their blood, amplifying the risk-factors of obesity. The disease leads to a form of liver damage called fibrosis, similar to the results of alcohol abuse."
The study's lead author, Dr. John Thyfault, is quoted as saying, "Your personal aerobic fitness is not something you will see in the mirror but it is an important predictor of your long-term health." Check out the whole piece.
