Country songwriter-turned-hit artist Phil Vassar had a bit of help in the acting department while making his latest music video in honor of his new single, "Bobbi With An I," which has already created a buzz at country radio.
Initially, Vassar debuted the clip, which features Desperate Housewives' James Denton, exclusively on AOL, the No. 1-ranked international music site. But these days, the summer fun-focused music clip's been released in wider distribution (and posted herein).
Shot in Nashville, the video for "Bobbi With An I" was one that Vassar created with the intention of tickling funny bones. He penned the tune with his frequent writing partner, Craig Wiseman, and—like many a country song—its basis is derived from real-life experience.
“Bobbi is actually a guy I knew—this outrageous guy who showed up at a club one night dressed as a girl,” shared the Universal Records South artist. “It was just a funny way to pick up chicks.”
When it came time to cast the music video for the song, the Virginia-born Vassar called on actor and fellow Tennessean Denton, who was more than willing to don a pink dress for the shoot.
"I was happy to be part of one of his videos—particularly a song that's as much fun as 'Bobbi,'" Denton shared. "We have a lot in common. He's a family guy. The shoot was a real family affair—his sister, mom and daughter were all at the shoot and that told me a lot about him.”
Although it's still early, early responses to the tune from radio programmers and fans are positive, with Tampa Bay-based Mike Culotta, a CBS Radio operations manager/program director, noting, “'Bobbi With An I'”, what a hoot. The minute we got it we put it on the air and listeners responded immediately with laughter and applause. They got it. They loved it. And the requests keep coming. ..."
"Bobbi With an I" is the first single and music video from Vassar's forthcoming CD.
