Country music group Little Texas pulls off April Fool's prank on fans, some media
Country-rockers Little Texas got one over on fans and some media on April Fool’s Day when the band posted a blog, complete with photos, on its official Web site about an upcoming music collaboration with some of rock’s biggest artists.
Granted, news of an upcoming CD project by the platinum-selling quartet—drummer Del Gray, bassist-vocalist Duane Propes, lead vocalist/guitarist Porter Howell and guitarist-vocalist Dwayne O’Brien—with rock heroes is fathomable, since the group has always had a hard-driving rock edge, especially in the live-show setting. Thing is, it was just a prank in honor of April 1.
“We are pleased to announce that LT will be going back into the studio again soon to cut a whole new album!!” the blog read. “In yet another brave movement, the band has decided to record a Heavy Metal project with some of its rock heroes. Little Texas has invited Dave Mustane of Megadeath, Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult, Mick Mars of Motley Crue, Ian Hill of Judas Priest, Jeff Watson of Night Ranger and Phil Anselmo of Pantera (just to throw a little Texas rock into the mix) to guest.”
Moreover, continued to announcement, “It’s gonna be loud, obnoxious and in your face,” said bassist Duane Propes in an interview on March 29. “Porter’s pulling out his Mesa Boogies and Marshalls, and even got out his Kramer guitar with the pointy headstock and the whammy bar. Del’s working on his double-kick stuff. O’Brien isn’t bathing until we get it finished. It’s rock ‘n’ roll – I’m tellin’ ya!!”
Now celebrating its 20th anniversary on tour, including Triple Threat concert dates, Little Texas went on to inform fans that making the project, tentatively dubbed Fat Finger, was going to be a recording-meets-party blowout of grand proportions.
“I don’t know where we’re going to put all these (rock ‘n’ roll) guys, or how much it’s going to cost, but you can bet there’s gonna be one heck of a party!” drummer Gray chimed in on the blog.
Plus, “We get to sing about love, girls, Texas, and all that mess all the time,” wrote Howell. “It’s about time we get to breathe fire and spit blood.”
Of course, at the close of the blog/press release, the band attempted to clue readers that it was a joke, by setting the make-believe CD’s release date as Nov. 31, 2009. Thing is, folks reading the opening lines were too excited about the project to notice that little detail.
Nobody can say the three-time Grammy-nominated Little Texas lineup doesn’t know how to have fun on April 1. And for those who see the news posted here and there online, hey, mark those calendars for Nov. 31 so you can remember to snag your copy just in time for Christmas (wink, wink).
"Your Woman" is one of Little Texas' most recent singles and music videos. It's contained on the band's Missing Years CD.
