"Win lose or tie, I'm a Raider until I die."
That is the mantra of the Raider Nation. Once upon a time, the losing aspect of that statement was nearly as rare as the ties. (Just don't tell Donovan McNabb about that.) The Raider Nation is not happy with the current state of the team, as they expect a Super Bowl berth as their birthright. However, it is impossible to deny the passion that the Raider Nation exudes even in the dark times.
Despite limping their way towards concluding yet another losing season, the Raiders have sold out all but one of their home games, and that was the week following their worst single game performance ever. It is impossible to miss the droves of people on the streets in Northern California still decked out in their Raider gear. Despite the rumors to the contrary, the state of the Raider Nation is strong.
The Nation is not happy with the state of the team, and Al Davis has gone from a nearly Superman figure in the eyes of the Nation to a frequent target of criticism. This is a fall from grace that is deserved with the play that the Raiders have put together as a team, but it does not dimish the love for the Silver and Black from the faithful.
When the Raiders return home to face the Patriots, the House of Thrills will be rocking. The Nation has been chomping at the bit for the chance to boo guys like Randy Moss and LaMont Jordan. The Raider Nation will be loud and proud and hoping for the best. The Raider Nation deserves a better performance from the team than they have been getting these last several years. Maybe, next year....
