It is official. The Oakland Raiders have now set a record for the most consecutive seasons with 11 losses or more. On this day, they showed the NFL exactly why they have lost that many games, as their play was completely inept and uninspired. The play calling left the Raider Nation scratching their heads, wondering what the coaching staff was thinking.
Oakland Raider castoffs Randy Moss and LaMont Jordan combined for three of the seven touchdowns that the Pats pinned on the Raiders. The Raiders defense let the Patriots move the ball at will throughout the first half, and it looked like the Pats were going to set the record for most points in a game. However, the Pats seemed to call off the dogs a bit, and the Raiders merely gave up 49 points.
Offensively, the Raiders scored three touchdowns. All of which were after they gave up a 21-0 lead in the first half of the first quarter. Justin Miller had his second straight game with a kickoff return for a touchdown, and the Patriots answered right back with a touchdown return of their own.
The Raiders defense could not stop anything. The Pats garnered 21 first downs in the first half, along with 35 points. Nnamdi Asomugha was targeted often, giving up several receptions and being flagged three times for defensive holding. (Two were accepted.)
The Raiders offense could not move the ball until the game was well out of hand. The first three possessions ended in three and outs. The fourth possession resulted in a touchdown pass from JaMarcus Russell to Johnnie Lee Higgins. It was a short pass, where Higgins was able to make a move and turn it into a foot race. The Raiders added a couple of touchdowns in the second half, but by that time the game was already decided. JaMarcus Russell had two fumbles on the day, as well as an interception.
