This weekend the seventh annual Vampires Masquerade Ball will take place Portland. According to the event web site, the Ball is an affair that not only draws in local vampire nerds, but attracts nerds from all over the country! The web site promises the ball will serve as "a night of elegance, decadence, and prestige that is exclusively held one night a year." What exactly is the ball? It's a night of fun, fashion, food, performances and more! "Complete with regional vendors, dj's, performers, professional event photographers, and catering (cheeses, breads, meats, desserts, chocolate fountains, etc)" this event promises to provide vampire nerds with plenty to feel nerdy about! Nearly 1,000 people, alive and undead alike, are expected to attend!
Why exactly is this event called the Vampires Masquerade Ball? The web site explains that "using "vampire" in the name of the event is meant to touch on dark romanticism, having an appreciation for all found beautiful in the gothic community." But don't get the impression that this event will not be full of vampire themes and fun -- in fact, the event is put on by the local vampire community itself, whatever the heck that means! The ball takes place at Portland's historic Melody Ballroom and sounds like it will be a scream!
I'll be attending the meet and greet tomorrow evening, and the ball on Saturday and will let you know how it goes. But better yet -- you too can attend! Tickets are on sale for $30.00 each at the Masquerade's web site or at the door the night of. Hope to bite you there!
