The garden year is just shaping up around here and there's no better place to watch it unfold than at the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise. Nestled up against the foothills under TableRock, 30 acres of gardens and plant collections are being primped and polished for the new year.
A single membership is a measely $35 and for a few dollars more you can bring a friend.
Yes, I tend to be partial to the garden. We have a big history together. We go wayyyyyy back-about 20 years back. In 1991 I became a member of the the Garden's Board of Directors, a responsiblity I cherished. In the years since, I have had the great delight of seeing the Contemporary English Garden come into full flower. The Lewis and Clark garden is coming into its own, the grass and stone labyrinth (based on the one at Chartes in France) brings delight to children, and the concerts have made my head and heart sing on more than one occasion.
There's more to see every year: new plantings (the plaza entry garden was designed by Jeff Lightbody in 2008) are taking hold, the Children's Adventure Garden is being shaped, and events are planned for every week and month of the growing season.
To get the season started, come to the SEED SWAP on March 14th. Join us by bringing your extra seeds to the Idaho Botanical Garden Administration Office, Saturday, March 14 between 10 a.m. and Noon. Find something new to try this year and share your favorites with others. This is a perfect event for those who have seed packets with more seeds than they can use. Tell your friends and neighbors, everyone is invited!
