It's so nice to see some hometown fashion heroes take the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week! (isn't it kind of annoying how you always have to add that automotive product plug?) San Francisco natives Erin Fetherston and Peter Som and UC Berkeley grads Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte took the runway and they show that some good - nay - GREAT SF Bay Area designers can make it big in the business:

True to form, Erin Fetherston's garments floated down the runway with light-as-air femininity in pastel hues, defining the essence of spring/summer style. The simple, wearable looks of dream-worthy sportswear led to gorgeous gowns of outsized ruffles and dreamsicle looks worthy of red carpet.

Sticking to a classic lady-like aesthetic, Peter Som gives looks for the modern woman who is savvy with her modesty, but also likes to show some leg. Cinched at the waist and adhering to the popular shades of the season, the collection gave us a merger of Jackie O sophistication and bohemian style.

The sisters of Rodarte are one of a kind. They have this aesthetic that, let's be honest, blows a lot of their peers out of the water. With an unmatched vision, their spring/summer 2009 collection started off with neutral toned garments which spilled into swirling gowns, cobwebbed knits and menacing biker chick funk. Watching their collections is truly like watching an art exhibition strut down a runway. And P.S. - Always take note of their fierce shoes!
