Sam Flood the Executive Producer of the NHL on NBC who is also the pride of Williams College is a true hockey fan. He is getting his gifted gang ready for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But for their final regular season game NBC have a real backyard brawl featuring the Red Wings and the Blackhawks.
Mike "Doc" Emrick, Eddie Olczyk and Pierre McGuire will call the action. McGuire will pull double duty, hosting NBC's studio show alongside analyst Mike Milbury on site at the United Center.
Kudos to Emrick last week received his second consecutive Sports Emmy nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality – Play-by-Play.
Here is what the guys think about this match up.
McGuire on the Red Wings: "They are still the gold standard in terms of their team play and their skill level. They are a model franchise. The big question for them, as it's been all year, is what's going on with their goaltending."
Olczyk on the Blackhawks: "Chicago got a taste of the pressure last year when they came so close. I think that will help them more than people think. They've learned how to win. [Nikolai] Khabibulin has been stellar all year and he's been through this before. I think they'll go as far as he takes them."
NBC does hockey better than anyone. There is a great balance of passion and professionalism between the broadcasters that makes watch their broadcasts a real treat.
