Apollo 8 reunion

The achievements of the  famous 1968 Apollo 8 Christmas lunar orbit mission still echo, forty years later.  Privately, Mission Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders had figured the odds of their success --and survival--as no better than 50-50.

But survive they did, in a feat of engineering accomplishment and just plain sheer courage. Recently, the Apollo 8 crew gathered with another famed former astronaut, John Glenn, to recall their memories of that flight. Shown here are Borman, second from left, Lovell, and Anders during a Newseum interview.

Video of famous Christmas message is here, with the full story. See the first Apollo 8 slideshow here.
