Sufjan Stevens releases a new album! Well, Christmas album.

I have a platonic crush on Sufjan Stevens. When you listen to one of his songs, you can instantly tell it's Sufjan's music before he even opens his mouth. It's pretty cool when you can recognize a musician instantly like that, because after all, they are using instruments that have been around for centuries, played by thousands of individuals. I love Sufjan Stevens' creativity, which can be seen in his music, at his shows (unfortunately I've only seen pictures and videos), and his creative writing.

Sufjan's last album, Illinoise, came out in 2005. At that time he was working on a project where he was going to make an album for each of the 50 states. It might be a little problematic that he has only made one other states album, Michigan, in 2003, so we'll have to see what he decides to do with that project (out of boredom, I decided to write a letter from Sufjan on IndieMuse a few weeks ago explaining all). In the meantime, every year, Sufjan records a Christmas record, which he passes out to family and friends. In 2006, Asthmatic Kitty released his first five Christmas albums on the box set Songs for Christmas.

Since then, he's made Christmas albums for 2006, 2007, and 2008. This year's collection is called Astral Inter Planet Space Captain Christmas Infinity Voyage, Volume VIII. There is no word on an official release, but the songs can be downloaded at So This Is What The Volume Knob is For (two mp3s are below).

Tracklist:
1. Angels We Have Heard on High
2. Do You See What I See?
3. It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
4. Christmas in the Room
5. Good King Wenceslas
6. Joy to the World
7. The Child With the Star on His Head
