While we certainly anticipate The Twilight Saga: New Moon to do well this year, one has to pay homage to the biggest competition of the year - Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.
Having had its world premiere in London earlier this week (see here), HPHBP and its stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint took to the red carpet in New York City last night to celebrate its second big opening.
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone took home over 90 million in its opening weekend of about 3,700 theaters. The second film, Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets, took home 88.35 million in its opening weekend in the same amount of theaters. The third, Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban, made it to 3,855 theaters for a near 94 million dollar opening. When the fourth, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire came out (one which included, as its Cedric Diggory, Robert Pattinson), it took home over 102 million dollars worldwide, releasing in 3,858 theaters. The fifth, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix (also featuring Pattinson), cooled down a bit with a little over 77 million in a 4,285 theater opening.
So, how much will Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince make? Also, how much will The Twilight Saga: New Moon take home on opening weekend (Twilight made almost 70 million on its opening weekend)? Comment below with your estimations!
