Having landed in Sanur, Bali, Indonesia midway through a recent assignment, the much better half was bound and determined to expose us to some local culture.
Too weary to resist (energy apparently sapped by repeated exposure to various plentiful flying "t'ings"), the Parigata Resort where we stayed offered just such a diversion.
Our exposure to the Legong Dance performance at the nearby Banjar Beach Cafe accompanied a fine multi-course dinner with the right price of roughly $18 US.
Much more has been written elsewhere about the Legong by greater authorities. The dance is performed by beautiful girls who begin learning at a young age. It's a combination of subtle movement, including flashing of the eyes and the wavering of fingers.
Music from the gamelan, or Indonesian musical ensemble, is exotic-sounding to the Western ear and hypnotic in effect.
The accompanying video gives a flavor of the experience, and it deserves to be on the list of anyone who finds themselves Bali bound.
