Ugly, really isn't even the word to use.
This game was supposed to be a testament as to how far the Bulls (1-1) have come as a team, instead the Boston Celtics (3-0) showed them they might not have even come that far.
Paul Pierce dropped 20 in the third quarter alone, finishing with 22, Ray Allen finished with 20 as the Celtics handed the Bulls their first loss of the season, and one to leave a statement, 118-90.
Pierce and Allen went a combined 7-10 from deep and seem to take turn sticking daggers at any hope for a Bulls run.
"That was beautiful to watch," Kevin Garnett (16 points) said. "To watch those two play and build the lead up while they were in there."
What was beautiful to watch for Garnett and the Celtics had to make Bulls faithful question was this the team that really took the Celtics to seven games in last season's opening playoff round. The game was blown open early in the first-half and the Bulls never truly threatened the C's dominance.
"It's an early season test for us and we didn't respond real well," coach Vinny Del Negro said. "In the third they just jumped on us. We weren't physical enough. They're difficult to contend with."
The Bulls were led by Joakim Noah who totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds.
The Celtics look like they're on a mission, once again and that same fire that was evident in 2008 is back again.
The good news for the Bulls is this is just their second game of the season, they have plenty of time to correct the mistakes made during this game.
The Bulls will face the Miami Heat (2-0) on Sunday, at Miami.
GAME NOTES
The Bulls will let F Tyrus Thomas become a restricted free agent after the end of the season. Thomas' agent, Brain Elfus and Bulls General Manager Gar Forman had discussed terms of a contract extension, but both agreed there won't be any more negotiating before Monday's deadline.
"There won't be a shortage of teams with significant cap space interested in Tyrus next summer," Elfus said by phone on Friday "But he loves Chicago, and he realizes the Bulls are on the verge of contending. He would still love to remain a Bull long-term."
