The first "Mira, Mira on the wall" inquiry graced the SF Beauty Examiner inbox this morning and definitely put a cherry on top of this glorious and sunny 4th of July.

Dear Mira Mira on the wall,

As a stylist, the Smokey eye has become a staple to my everyday look, but the white I use as a base eyeshadow looks too chalky and thick for work. Can you recommend a great white eyeshadow or Smokey eye look to use in the morning?

- Karen, Virginia Beach

First, We would like to exclaim a big "Yay!" that is covered and coated in gratitude for being our first "Mira, Mira on the wall" question. (There's something special in the mail on it's way. More details for SF Beauty readers and how to receive a free goodie below.)

Now to the question...The black Smokey eye is perfect for night events and parties but when it comes to the workplace or morning coffee runs, it can come off a little too harsh and try-hard.

First, let's address product.
Favorite white's that avoid a chalky gesso look are usually mineral based eyeshadows. Mineral shadows carry  light reflective pigments that portray a nice subtle wash with only a few dabs while also having the advantage of being layered for a more prominent effect. Do most of the "packing" closer to the brow arch to "lift" the area for a more refined old-Hollywood starlet look. Also, don't forget a primer to avoid any creases or oil slicks. (Urban Decay Primer Potion: $19.00)

Mira's top white bases:
1. MAC White frost (PRO) or Vanilla
2. Bare Escentual's Vanilla Sugar
3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Polyester Bride

Second, for a morning look, switch the black for a neutral grey or brown. Then, skip or trade the dramatic liner for some false lashes and/or a couple of heavy coats of mascara. You can see Kim Kardashian's famous Smokey eyes rewind from red carpet to rehearsal room in this video from E! Hollywood below.

Lastly, since the classic Smokey eye isn't going anywhere, this video below is especially posted for all of the curious ladies out there that still haven't tried it. Here is a stellar tutorial from a personal favorite Beauty Guru, Marlena, from MakeupGeek.com (Yeah! Her beauty know-how effing rocks my socks!)
