Vegas 2009 Halloween week events guide III : family and community events

This third entry regarding Vegas 2009 Halloween events outlines some extensive activities that are family friendly and / or suitable for senior citizens. These events might also apply for those who just aren't into the heavy - duty party options presented in the preceding article in this series. The presented Halloween options are scheduled to take place during 10/27 - 10/31, 2009. Many of the listed events are either quite inexpensive or free to attend. Refer to the provided links or phone numbers for further information.

Glendale Haunted Corn Maze : Karaoke, BBQ, and live music are available at this event. Food donations result in a dollar off door entry prices. Print a coupon at this link to receive another dollar off admission prices. Adult admission is $12 and children 12 and under get in for$10. The haunted maze is open from 7:30pm - 10:30 pm this coming Friday and Saturday nights. This event is located approximately 50 miles northeast from the Vegas strip on I - 15 in Moapa, NV.

Wicked West Halloween Fest : This event is located on the Red Rock Canyon Loop approximately 25 miles west of Vegas. This festival includes the heralded Bonnie Screams haunted ghost town attraction, a haunted train ride,a carnival midway and lots of food vendors. This attraction will be open through Nov 2. General admission costs $20.

Trunk or Treat events : There's several of these events associated with gathering candy from the trunks of cars among other family fun options. This genre includes Trunk or Treat at Cambridge Rec Center (Oct 27 ) , Trunk or Treat at Gibson Community School (Oct 30 ; phone 702-229-5096), and the police events referred to as the Metro Trunk or Treat  held at two separate locations on Halloween, Oct 31.

Pumpkin Painting and Photo Activity: This event at Whitney Recreation Center on Oct 27 involves pumpkin painting and photo shots for kids of all ages. Pumpkins cost $1 per person.

Kooky Pumpkin Creations Workshop at Doolittle Senior Center : This creative pumpkin art shindig is for ages 50+ and scheduled for Oct 27 ; advance registration is required and can be accomplished by phoning 702-229-6125.

Indian Springs Halloween Carnival : This free event for all ages includes games, prizes, and a haunted house. It takes place Oct 28 at Mountain Crest Neighborhood Services Center.

Chills and Thrills Safe Halloween : At this Oct 28 event held at Walnut Recreation Center, residents can meet and greet their local public and safety officials and radio celebrities. Laser tag, a funhouse, carnival games, and trick or treating are among the activities.

Alexander Library Spooktacular Halloween Crafts : Spooky crafts and decorations creation by children of all ages is scheduled here on Oct 28.

Murder Mystery Luncheon : This Oct 28 event for ages 50+ involves a crime discovery, solving it, and apprehension of the 'criminal" all during a lunch aboard a fabricated ship cruising to the Bahamas (only in Vegas ). The site for this Vegas Halloween version of "Murder She Wrote" is the Las Vegas Senior Center at 11 : 30 am. All that fun for only $5.

Halloween Party: On Oct 28 at noon, ages 50+ can have lunch and party hearty at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center. Phone 702-229-1702 (advance registration required).

Monstrous Munchies & Movie : This event on Oct 28 for kids aged 6 -12 involves creation of a Halloween treat and then a fun Halloween movie. This fun takes place at the Doolittle Community Center. Phone 702-229-6374.

Ghosts and Goblins Halloween Parade at Whitney Recreation Center : Kids of all ages can parade around the grounds of Whitney Park in their Halloween costumes on Oct 28 for free.

Monster Bash at East Las Vegas Community / Senior Center : This Oct 28  (11:30 am) event is for seniors 50+ who are invited to dress in costume, eat, enjoy games, and other halloween fun for only $4.

Candy and Corridors at Paradise Recreation Center : On Oct 29, children under 13 can trick or treat, visit a haunted house, and enjoy activities with tickets priced 10 tickets for $5.

Halloween Movie and Snack : Children of all ages can enjoy popcorn and a drink while enjoying a Halloween movie on Oct 29 at the Whitney Recreation Center. It's a free event.

Haunted in Las Vegas Day Tour : Participants of this Oct 29 tour will depart from the Las Vegas Senior Center on a trip to the haunted parts of town. It's open to all ages and costs approximately $15.

Halloween Dance at Charleston Heights Arts Center : Participants can kick up their heels to the sounds of Boyd Coulter and The Good Times band which specializes in music from the 40's through the 60's. Tickets are $10 - $12.

Easter Seals Southern Nevada's Great Pumpkin Run : This Oct. 30 event at Cashman Field will involve runners / walkers decked out in Halloween costumes on a 1 - 5 kilometer trek through Woodlawn Cemetery and then enjoyment of a Halloween themed after party with food, drinks, and entertainment . Cost is $15 - $25 for all ages.

North Las Vegas Police Dept. Safe Halloween : On Oct 31, the North Las Vegas Police Department will conduct it's annual Safe Halloween Event at Home Depot (1275 Craig Road). Activities include live entertainment, free candy, and trick or treating. It's all free.

Halloween Blood Drive at Eastside Cannery Casino : The Eastside Cannery and several local radio stations will host this blood drive conducted by United Blood Services. It's a free event for ages 17 and up.

Fourth Annual Ghost Walk at The District (Green Valley Ranch Casino ) : On Oct 31, the whole family can enjoy trick or treating, DJ music, and "The Big Guy" , a fifty foot tall ghost towering above Main Street at the Green Valley Ranch's The District venue. They're also offering a Carnival of Horrors at this free for all ages event.

Pumpkin Carving at Mountain Crest Neighborhood Services Center : Participants of all ages can carve their pumpkins at this free event on Oct 31. The sponsors will provide carving tools, patterns , and clean up for the activities.

Tricks and Treats at The Village at Lake Las Vegas: Enjoy BMX tricks performed by the Action Sports United group, safe street trick or treating, a haunted house, and live music at this free for all ages event on Oct 31.

Howling Halloween Carnival : On Oct 29, participate in costume contests, carnival games , a haunted hallway, and more at this $1 entry event at Doolittle Community Center.
